Job Description
Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all.
As an intern within the Immigration and Border Governance (IBG) Unit, you will support the project team with administrative, financial, and logistical tasks. This position offers exposure to IOM Kenya's activities and provides a learning platform for understanding project management cycles, monitoring, and evaluation within an international organization. You will be able to prove your dedication, skills, and capacity to work in an international setting as part of a diverse and international team.
Responsibilities
Administrative & Logistical Support: Assist the project team lead with administrative, financial, and logistical arrangements for the IBG programme, including procurement requests, payments follow-up, workshop logistics, and filing.
Event Coordination: Support the planning and coordination of trainings, monitoring visits, and programme events. This includes scheduling, preparing participant lists, invitations, attendance sheets, and logistical checklists.
Stakeholder Liaison: Assist in maintaining regular communication with government counterparts, contacting training participants and facilitators for confirmations and logistical requirements.
Research & Reporting: Assist with background research, desk reviews, and data collection to support IBG project development, reporting, and concept note preparation.
Communication & Visibility: Draft and edit communications products such as news items, briefs, success stories, event highlights, and social media content in line with IOM standards.
Documentation: Prepare presentations, talking points, training reports, minutes, and maintain participant databases.
Field Support: Participate in field missions with the Project Lead/Programme Officer as required, supporting travel and field implementation tasks.
Learning Objectives
Be exposed to the activities of IOM Kenya, particularly the Immigration and Border Governance Unit.
Gain an understanding of IOM’s project management cycle, including monitoring and evaluation.
Learn technical skills related to migration governance and international administration.
Develop professional skills within a diverse and international setting.
Qualifications and Experience
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law, or related fields from an accredited academic institution.
Experience: No former work experience is required.
