Job Description
The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) is seeking a Communications Intern to join their team. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in media, communication, and public relations within the UN system.
Duties and Responsibilities
Multimedia Production: Planning and shooting high-quality photos and videos to capture various milestones of the project. Transforming raw footage into compelling stories through creative editing.
Website and Intranet Updates: Regularly updating the UN internet websites and UNON intranet sites with project articles and stories in support of the overall CFP Communication Strategy.
Social Media Management: Supporting the development of the CFP social media strategy and coordinating its implementation. Serving as the focal point for CFP social media accounts. Monitoring and moderating comments on social media posts, intervening as appropriate to guide a story/conversation.
Donor Relations and Marketing: Preparing brochures, presentations, and other marketing materials to solicit Voluntary Contributions or in-kind contributions from Member States and other potential donors for various aspects of the project.
Content Creation: Drafting and compiling information and communication products for target audiences, including press releases, reports, brochures, briefings, video clips, newsletters, etc. Focusing communication on project updates including the 'sustainability' and 'accessibility for persons with disabilities' initiatives.
Event Organization: Organizing or participating in the organization of conferences, official high-level visits, press briefings, meetings, etc. Preparing presentations and briefing materials for officials prior to their participation in such events.
Collaboration: Working with the Communication focal points at United Nations Information Service (UNIS) and the Office of the Director General to share information and create awareness on the CFP.
Other Duties: Performing other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Special Skills
Education: Applicants must be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent), or have graduated with a Bachelor's, Master's, PhD, or equivalent in the past two years.
Preferred Field of Study: Studies in Journalism and Communication, Development Studies, Public Relations, International Relations, or a related field.
Technical Skills: Proficient in standard software applications (MS Office Suite). Good understanding of camera work, lighting, and composition is required. Knowledge of photography, video, and graphic editing tools is required.
Soft Skills: Demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter. Ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, including a willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Experience: While professional experience is not required, experience in developing communications products for target audiences (press releases, reports, brochures, newsletters) is highly desirable.
