Instrument Laboratory Analyst

Role Description

The Instrument Laboratory Analyst is responsible for testing food and non-food products requiring chromatographic, elemental, and instrumental analysis in accordance with standard operating procedures, national, international, and industry standards or client guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

• Test food products and non-food products requiring chromatographic/elemental/instrumental analysis in accordance with standard operating procedures, techniques, national, international, and industry standards or client guidelines.
• Ensure all activities are carried out in compliance with the laboratory’s QA/QC system with an emphasis on ISO 17025 and ensure GLP compliance where applicable.
• Ensure good instrumental techniques (e.g. GC-MS/MS, LC-MS/MS, GC-MS, GC-FID, ICP-OES, UV-Visible Spectrophotometer) are always employed.
• Ensure test data and results produced are accurate, reliable, and within acceptable repeatability/reproducibility.
• Adhere to the set turnaround time for every sample submitted and ensure clients' testing requirements are fully met.
• Adhere to health and safety measures in regard to general hygiene, sample testing, sample retention, and disposal/destruction.
• Ensure correct methods, standards, and techniques are applied consistently in all analysis carried out including sample preparation prior to actual instrumental analysis.
• Ensure raw data of analysis carried out clearly supports results obtained prior to subsequent approval.
• Maintain cleanliness and safety in the laboratory environment.
• Keep abreast of the latest developments of analytical standards related to elemental/instrumental analysis and technologies to continuously develop new methods and capabilities.
• Work in a flexible manner to meet customer needs for 24/7, 365-day service.
• Highlight competency issues and provide or participate in appropriate training to enable personal and team development.
• Provide cross coverage for sample registry duties during planned absence.
• Perform any other duties assigned by management.

Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum degree in Chemistry/Biochemistry, or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
• Minimum two years laboratory testing experience, preferably in a multi-purpose laboratory.
• Good knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025, ISO 9001, and HSE standards.
• Ability to work with minimum supervision.
• Satisfactory capability in application of relevant testing protocols.
• Sound knowledge of laboratory work, particularly instrumental methods used in trace analysis.
