This leadership role, based in Bomet, focuses on overseeing the entire inpatient care delivery system within the hospital setting. The Inpatient In-Charge provides crucial nursing leadership, manages operational decisions, ensures adherence to high clinical standards, and supervises nursing staff across all inpatient wards. The goal is to maintain smooth, consistent, and high-quality patient care while complying with regulatory standards and effective departmental administration.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee inpatient care delivery, including staff scheduling, team coordination, and daily operational decisions.
- Provide leadership to Unit In-Charges to ensure smooth and consistent nursing operations across all inpatient wards.
- Lead recruitment, training, mentoring, and performance management of nursing staff.
- Ensure accurate documentation, proper departmental records, and compliance with regulatory and hospital requirements.
- Apply nursing best practices and current clinical guidelines to uphold high standards of patient care and safety.
- Ensure effective staff deployment, verify valid nursing licenses, and maintain updated staff certifications.
- Support audits, Quality Management Systems (QMS), risk management, and other quality or compliance initiatives within the department.
- Develop and manage departmental budgets, work plans, and represent nursing leadership in meetings or assigned duties.
Key Qualifications
- Higher Diploma in Nursing or a related field; a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing is an added advantage.
- Valid registration and license with the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK).
- Leadership training is an added advantage.
- At least 3 years of progressive nursing experience, including a minimum of 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of inpatient care, nursing administration, and regulatory standards.
- Strong leadership, communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, high-pressure environment, high integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism.
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
