The role of the HS Social Science Teacher with IB Psychology is critical to ensuring student learning success and catering to the individual learning needs of each student within the High School setting. Duties
Every educator’s primary responsibility is to ensure student learning success and provide for the individual learning needs of each student. Specific responsibilities for this role include:
- Collaborate with the High School Social Studies Department to ensure high-quality teaching and learning, and the implementation of the school-wide Social Studies program.
- Provide appropriate support for all students.
- Deliver Social Emotional Learning (SEL) lessons as an Advisory teacher.
- Communicate with and support families.
- Work collaboratively in a co-teaching model when needed.
- Participate in Professional Learning Communities.
- Attend relevant departmental, divisional, and K-12 professional meetings.
- Supervise the IB Extended Essay and support the CAS program (Creativity, Activity, Service).
- Engage in our Intercultural Trips throughout Kenya.
- Implement the school’s strategic focus areas (SFAs).
- Sponsor a minimum of one extra-curricular student activity.
- Perform other duties as may be reasonably assigned by the leadership team.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Valid teaching certification (e.g., state/provincial license, TSC, PGCE, or equivalent).
- Master’s degree in the relevant subject area or a related field (preferred).
Professional Experience
- Minimum of 4 years of relevant teaching experience.
- Experience with the U.S./Canadian curriculum and/or the IB Programme (as applicable).
- IB Diploma Programme (DP) Psychology teaching experience preferred.
- Experience with Common Core State Standards (as applicable).
Professional Skills & Competencies
- Cultural proficiency and understanding of intercultural learning with teaching experience in a multicultural setting.
- Competent in using educational technology, including the Google Suite, and effectively integrating technology into instruction.
- Fluent English speaker with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Solid understanding of pedagogy and instructional approaches aligned with ISK’s educational aims, including:
