The Housing Caretaker role at The International School of Kenya (ISK) is essential for maintaining the quality, cleanliness, and safety of faculty housing. This position requires a proactive, technically skilled individual committed to continuous learning, capable of working both independently and collaboratively to ensure all residential facilities are fully functional and well-kept.
Scope of Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that ISK faculty housing is well-maintained, clean, and safe. The position requires strong technical skills, the ability to work independently and collaboratively, and a commitment to continuous learning as new technologies and equipment are introduced.
Required Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes
Candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Education: Diploma from a recognized technical college.
- Experience: Minimum of three years’ experience in building maintenance or facilities management, with demonstrated exposure to multiple trades (plumbing, electrical, masonry, etc.).
- Technical Expertise: Strong mechanical and technical problem-solving skills.
- Supervision: Demonstrated ability to supervise and evaluate the work of others.
- Communication & Service: Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills. Strong written and spoken English and Kiswahili are required.
- IT Proficiency: Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database management, and email systems.
- Work Ethic & Management: Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with attention to detail. Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities. Self-motivated, reliable, and able to work with minimal supervision.
- Personal Qualities: Must maintain high ethical standards and commitment to confidentiality. Flexibility, adaptability, and a willingness to learn are crucial.
- Alignment: Familiarity with ISK policies and procedures and alignment with the school’s mission and values.
Preferred Qualifications, Skills and Qualities
The following qualifications are highly desirable:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
- Prior experience in a similar facility or housing caretaker role.
- Experience working in an international or high-standard hospitality environment.
