Job Description
World Relief is an international relief and development agency founded in 1944. We are seeking a Health & Nutrition Technical Advisor to act as the global technical lead for the implementation and growth of World Relief’s Health and Nutrition programming. This role includes oversight of World Relief’s program portfolio covering health, nutrition, and WASH, as well as supervision of contractors supporting these areas. The advisor will focus on business development, program quality, technical assistance, strategy, and external engagement.
Responsibilities
Business Development (40%)
Grow WR’s Health and Nutrition portfolio and funding through leads development, pre-positioning, and the development of high-quality concept notes and proposals.
Collaborate with the Business Development team to create guidance and equip country offices in relevant partner mapping and relationship development.
Provide technical and partnership support on prepositioning and lead development for health and nutrition new business.
Work with Country Offices (COs) to explore new opportunities for implementing health and nutrition programming.
Design project strategies and write concept notes and proposals in collaboration with country-level staff.
Facilitate design workshops and development of theory of change, logframes, and indicators.
Review proposals for compliance with donor requirements and technical standards.
Ensure appropriate budgeting for critical costs such as pharmaceuticals and staff capacity development.
Program Quality and Technical Assistance (30%)
Act as global technical lead for supporting implementation and growth of Health and Nutrition programming.
Provide technical support to country offices with assessments, program planning, design, monitoring and evaluation (M&E), and quality assurance.
Strengthen CO capacity to prepare implementation and M&E plans.
Adapt, update, and contextualize tools and curricula.
Mentor and advise program staff on engagement with local churches and communities.
Carry out project visits for training, monitoring, evaluation, and quality improvement.
Develop programming guidance and tools in collaboration with other sectoral teams.
Strategy, Learning and Impact (15%)
Train and support program staff and partners in specific program guidelines and tools.
Foster learning and collaboration through the WR Health and Nutrition Community of Practice.
Stay abreast of new developments and innovations in the health and nutrition sector.
Document evidence and case studies for internal learning and external publications to improve WR’s technical brand.
External Engagement (15%)
Build WR’s technical brand through thought-leadership, networking, and engaging with partners, donors, and governments.
Represent World Relief at professional conferences and technical forums.
Participate in relevant professional networks such as CORE Group, CCIH, and the Global Health Cluster.
Requirements
Faith: Mature and personal Christian faith with a commitment to the mission, vision, and values of World Relief. Ability to affirm World Relief’s Core Beliefs and Statement of Faith.
Technical Expertise: Demonstrated experience in designing and providing technical assistance to health and nutrition programming in emergencies and protracted humanitarian crises.
Standards: Familiarity with CHS and Sphere standards for health and nutrition programming, as well as WHO and UNICEF guidance.
Donor Knowledge: Familiarity with US government foreign assistance policies and experience with donors like BHA, DoS, ECHO, and UNICEF.
M&E: Demonstrated experience in monitoring and evaluation utilizing quantitative and qualitative methodology.
Skills: Strong analytical, problem-solving, and facilitation skills; high level of proficiency with Microsoft Office.
Communication: Excellent English language oral presentation and written communication skills.
Travel: Ability and willingness to travel to program countries up to 25% of the time, including to insecure locations.
Qualifications
Education: Master’s Degree or higher in Public Health or other related field. A clinical qualification (medical doctor, nurse, midwife) is desirable.
Experience: Minimum seven years of experience in designing and implementing global health and/or nutrition programs in multiple regions, focusing on social and behavior change strategies.
Contextual Experience: At least three years of experience working in fragile or conflict-affected areas.
