Job Description Role Overview
AAA Growers, one of the leading exporters of premium prepared vegetables and the largest commercial grower and exporter of chillies from Kenya, is seeking a Head of Section for their vegetable production in Naromoru. This role is responsible for the end-to-end execution of planting programs and field management to ensure high-quality produce and efficient operations.
Key Responsibilities
Crop Establishment: Execute weekly planting programs and ensure proper crop establishment.Field Maintenance: Maintain clean, weed-free fields and oversee crucial crop support operations including coiling, tucking, and topping.Technical Oversight: Supervise irrigation schedules, plant nutrition programs, and integrated pest/disease management (IPM).Operations & Labor: Plan and allocate labor efficiently while participating in accurate harvest forecasting.Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to production, quality, and operational standards.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Achievement of agreed production targets.
Quality of produce supplied to packhouses (minimum 65% Class 1/PO standard).
Accuracy of harvest predictions (target margin of error ≤ 15%).
Maintaining section and crop cleanliness standards.
Timely and high-quality execution of cultural operations (weeding, coiling, tucking, topping).
Efficient irrigation management with minimal water wastage.
Effective pest and disease management.
Proper implementation of plant nutrition programs.
Qualifications and Key Competencies
Education: Diploma or Degree in Horticulture, Agronomy, Crop Science, or a related field.Experience: At least 5 years of experience in commercial vegetable production, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.Technical Skills: Strong technical knowledge of vegetable crops, irrigation systems, and Integrated Pest Management (IPM).Soft Skills: Proven leadership, planning, and analytical skills; results-driven with excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
