The role of the Head of Marketing Tanzania & Malawi is crucial for spearheading the development and execution of marketing strategies aimed at driving brand strength, market growth, and customer adoption across Sun King’s product range, including off-grid solar solutions, mobile phones, and clean cooking solutions.
Reporting to the Vice President of Marketing, this senior role involves translating the company’s mission of providing energy access and affordable products into compelling, data-informed campaigns that accelerate sales and build long-term brand credibility in Tanzania and Malawi. The position demands strategic guidance, deep knowledge of consumer behavior, and strong commercial acumen to ensure marketing efforts directly contribute to business growth and impact.
Furthermore, the Head of Marketing Tanzania & Malawi will collaborate with other Heads of Marketing, global Marketing partners, and cross-functional teams on the design and development of global cross-functional marketing initiatives.
Responsibilities
Strategic Marketing Stewardship
- Partner with the VP of Marketing to design and execute the global marketing strategy across Tanzania and Malawi.
- Ensure marketing goals are aligned with the commercial sales team, delivering a measurable contribution to business performance.
- Demonstrate customer segmentation knowledge and targeted appropriate marketing strategies to deliver the right quality of customers.
- Steer customer and market insights to effectively shape campaigns, product design, pricing initiatives, and communication strategies.
Brand Positioning & Campaign Messaging
- Strengthen the company’s position as a reliable, premium provider of clean energy and solar technology.
- Work closely with the global Communication & Content supervisor to design integrated brand campaigns that communicate both functional product value (affordability, durability, innovation) and value based on human impact (powering access to lives, empowerment, sustainability, opportunity).
- Incorporate storytelling to create an engaging brand sentiment.
- Act as a brand steward, executing a standard brand visual identity across all channels — retail, digital, and community-level activation.
Go-to-Market (GTM) & Channel Enablement
- Develop GTM strategies for new product launches and market entries.
- Partner with the sales department to build strong agent and customer marketing programs.
- Strengthen last-mile sales enablement through localized materials, brand visibility, and consumer education initiatives.
Digital & Performance Marketing
- Oversee the digital transformation of the marketing function, enhancing performance marketing, CRM, and data-enabled capabilities.
- Collaborate with the digital content team to drive direct-to-customer engagement via applicable digital channels.
- Utilize data insights to measure customer engagement, prospect generation, and conversion effectiveness.
Team Management & Development
- Guide and shape high-performance team efforts to deliver marketing campaigns.
- Guide, mentor, and develop regional and functional marketing teams, empowering them for future senior roles.
- Foster a high-performance, purpose-aligned culture rooted in teamwork and innovation.
- Manage agency partnerships, ensuring excellence in creative output and campaign efficiency.
Qualifications and Attributes (Strong Candidate Profile)
Candidates are expected to possess:
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Communications, or a related field; MBA preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive marketing experience, with 5+ years in a senior management capacity.
- Proven experience in renewable energy, off-grid solar, FMCG, or durable goods targeting base-of-pyramid consumers is a bonus.
- Strong knowledge of emerging-market consumer behaviour and last-mile distribution dynamics.
- Experience in building and managing integrated marketing campaigns (digital, ATL/BTL, and community-based).
- Solid data-focused and financial acumen, with confidence in managing budgets and interpreting performance data.
- Demonstrated success in guiding multicultural teams and agencies across multiple countries.
