The role of Head of Fleet Operations at Greenwheel is crucial for supporting the company's rapid scaling across Kenya. Greenwheels' mission is to "make streets more liveable" by offering shared cars as a sustainable alternative to car ownership, thereby creating more space in cities and on roads. This senior leadership position is responsible for the strategic and operational delivery of vehicle performance, maintenance, and partner engagement systems, ensuring fleet uptime, road safety, and cost efficiency. The role oversees four core functional areas: Incident Response Centre, Emergency Response, Maintenance, and Site Supervision.
What You'll Do (Key Responsibilities):
- Lead Kenya's fleet operations strategy, ensuring alignment with the regional roadmap and supporting the rapid scale-up of operations in Kenya.
- Oversee maintenance operations, including mobile repair units, centralized workshops, spare parts availability, and preventive maintenance scheduling guided by IoT and fault-trend data.
- Provide strategic leadership to the 24/7 Incident Response Centre (IRC), setting service standards, escalation protocols, and quality controls, ensuring timely and accurate triaging of incidents.
- Manage Emergency Response & Asset Recovery teams, ensuring safe handling of breakdowns, accidents, rider safety cases, and repossession operations through strong coordination and documentation.
- Drive operational visibility by monitoring fleet performance dashboards, incident patterns, cost drivers, and field intelligence to optimize efficiency and decision-making.
- Ensure robust site operations, including depot safety, security, regulatory compliance, and alignment with national transport and road safety requirements.
- Manage partnerships with OEMs, vendors, NTSA, insurance providers, local government, and police authorities to strengthen policy alignment and operational support.
- Hire, lead, and develop high-performing fleet teams, embedding strong KPIs, coaching practices, and cross-functional collaboration rituals.
Qualifications and Requirements (What We're Looking For):
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Transport Management, Business, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in fleet, mobility, or logistics operations.
- 7+ years of experience managing technical or distributed field teams.
- Strong understanding of NTSA regulations, road safety, and compliance frameworks.
- Experience in EV systems, diagnostics, maintenance planning, GPS/IOT tools, and dispatch technologies.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills with an analytical mindset.
