The Head of Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) is a senior leadership role offered on a 3-year fixed-term contract, based in Nairobi, Kenya. The position acts as a strategic partner to the CFO, focusing on financial planning, performance management, and organizational priorities. You will be responsible for leading the organization’s annual budgeting process across global and country teams, developing complex financial models, and providing forward-looking insights to senior leadership and the Board to ensure financial sustainability and alignment with strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Partnering: Act as a strategic partner to the CFO on financial planning, performance management, and organizational priorities.
- Budgeting & Planning: Lead the organization’s annual budgeting process across country and global teams, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities and funding realities.
- Forecasting: Develop and maintain rolling forecasts that reflect changes in funding, operations, and programmatic direction.
- Financial Modeling: Design and apply financial models and scenario analyses to support planning under uncertainty.
- Insights & Analysis: Provide forward-looking financial insights to senior leadership, highlighting risks, opportunities, and key financial trends.
- Staff Cost Planning: Own the organization’s staff cost planning framework, including allocation across projects, overheads, and funding sources.
- Workforce Guidance: Provide financial guidance on workforce planning decisions, ensuring affordability and long-term sustainability.
- Board Reporting: Support the preparation of financial analysis and insights for senior leadership and Board-level discussions, contributing to Board and Committee reporting.
- Team Leadership: Provide leadership and direction to the International Finance team, ensuring clear priorities, high-quality outputs, and strong coordination across the team.
Requirements and Experience
- Leadership Experience: Significant leadership level experience in financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and financial modelling at an organizational level.
- Sector Experience: Ideally within a multi-country NGO or similarly complex international environment.
- Staff Cost Management: Strong track record in staff cost management and workforce planning, including cost allocation and funding coverage analysis.
- Donor Funding: Essential experience working in donor-funded contexts with a solid understanding of cost recovery mechanisms and financial risk management.
- Senior Engagement: Experience in partnering effectively with senior leadership and presenting financial insights to executive and Board-level stakeholders.
- Team Development: Proven experience leading and developing finance teams, focusing on analytical capability and building a culture of business partnering.
- Qualification: Minimum of a BA/BSc/HND in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
Compensation
- Salary: KES 7,755,768 – KES 8,874,132 gross per annum (starting range depending on experience).
