A well-established farm near Thika is seeking a skilled Greenhouse Farm Manager to oversee daily production activities within high-tech greenhouse facilities. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in vegetable production, specifically tomatoes and capsicum, and a hands-on approach to managing greenhouse operations, quality, and labour teams. This role is suited to a driven, organised individual who understands modern protected-farming systems and can consistently deliver high-quality produce to market standards.
Key Responsibilities
Greenhouse Production
- Manage all aspects of greenhouse vegetable production, with a focus on tomatoes and capsicum.
- Monitor plant health, growth stages, pest/disease pressure, and overall production performance.
- Oversee irrigation, fertigation, pruning, trellising, crop protection, and harvesting activities.
Operational Management
- Plan, implement, and oversee daily workflows within the greenhouse environment.
- Manage production schedules to achieve optimal yields and consistent quality.
- Ensure effective use of resources including water, inputs, labour, and energy.
Quality Control
- Maintain strict quality standards from planting through to post-harvest handling.
- Ensure produce meets buyer specifications and export or local-market requirements.
Team Leadership
- Supervise and mentor greenhouse staff.
- Implement training, performance monitoring, and task allocation for smooth operations.
Record Keeping & Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of inputs, production volumes, fertigation schedules, and chemical usage.
- Prepare weekly and monthly management reports.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure safe working practices within the greenhouse environment.
- Comply with agricultural, environmental, and certification standards.
Minimum Requirements
- Diploma/Degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, Agronomy, or related field.
- Proven experience managing greenhouse vegetable production (tomatoes & capsicum essential).
- Strong understanding of crop nutrition, irrigation, pest/disease management, and modern greenhouse systems.
- Ability to lead teams, plan work, and manage production efficiently.
- Strong communication, organisational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Reliable, hands-on, and able to work independently.
