The Open University of Kenya (OUK) aims to address the pressing issue of limited capacity in traditional universities by employing innovative teaching and learning methodologies, including online and distance education. By leveraging technology and flexible learning modes, the university seeks to accommodate a larger number of qualified students, enabling them to pursue their education regardless of geographical constraints.
Roles & Responsibilities of Supervisors
- Provide academic and research supervision to Masters and PhD candidates.
- Guide candidates in proposal development, research design, data collection, analysis and thesis writing.
- Mentor candidates through virtual supervision on OUK's digital platforms.
- Ensure adherence to OUK's Graduate Studies Policy, research ethics and quality standards and other University policies including timelines.
- Provide timely feedback and progress reports as per institutional guidelines.
- Support preparation for thesis defense and publication of research outputs.
Qualifications for a PhD Supervisor
To be considered for this academic role, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- An earned PhD in a relevant field from a recognised institution.
- At least three (3) peer-reviewed publications in the last five years.
- Strong digital mentoring and online engagement skills to effectively support learners in virtual environments.
- Familiarity and prior experience with online or virtual supervision will be an added advantage.
