The Open University of Kenya (OUK) aims to address the pressing issue of limited capacity in traditional universities by employing innovative teaching and learning methodologies, including online and distance education. By leveraging technology and flexible learning modes, the university seeks to accommodate a larger number of qualified students. We are currently seeking Graduate Student Supervisors to provide expert guidance and support for candidates pursuing a Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence.
Roles & Responsibilities of Supervisors
Supervisors will undertake the following key duties:
- Provide comprehensive academic and research supervision to Masters and PhD candidates.
- Guide candidates through all stages of research, including proposal development, research design, data collection, analysis, and thesis writing.
- Mentor candidates effectively through virtual supervision using OUK's established digital platforms.
- Ensure strict adherence to OUK's Graduate Studies Policy, research ethics, and quality standards, as well as other relevant University policies and stipulated timelines.
- Provide timely feedback and submit progress reports in accordance with institutional guidelines.
- Support candidates in preparing for their thesis defense and the subsequent publication of their research outputs.
Qualifications for a Masters Supervisor
Candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Possess a PhD in a relevant field, OR
- Hold a Master’s degree combined with significant research or professional experience in specialized areas, along with demonstrated supervision of Masters candidates to successful completion.
- Have a strong track record, evidenced by at least two (2) peer-reviewed publications within the last five years.
- Demonstrate strong digital mentoring and online engagement skills necessary to effectively support learners in virtual environments.
- Familiarity and prior experience with online or virtual supervision is considered an added advantage.
