Job Description
Role Overview
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is seeking a Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) Consultant for its Urban Economy Branch. The mandate of this branch is to promote the capabilities of local governments. The consultant will leverage geospatial technology and expertise to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities, focusing on urban water resilience, nature-based solutions, and urban crisis prevention.
Responsibilities
Risk Assessment and Mapping: Develop and maintain multi-hazard risk assessment maps and technical reports focusing on prioritizing urban water resilience and nature-based solutions strategies.
Spatial Analysis: Create specialized spatial analyses and cartographic outputs for urban crisis prevention to support regional planning initiatives.
Dashboard Management: Design and maintain projects, tools, and partner dashboards on public space and urban health, enabling monitoring of accessibility and quality indicators.
Thematic Support: Provide technical GIS support to the Climate and Nature thematic area, including vulnerability mapping and intervention planning.
Urban Health Integration: Contribute geospatial expertise to the 'Integrating Urban Health in Urban and Territorial Planning' directory.
Qualifications and Experience
Education: A University degree in Geography, Landscape Architecture, Architecture, Urban Planning or Urban Studies, Spatial Planning, Urban Management and Development, or a related field is required.
Work Experience: At least two (2) years of experience working in urban planning and design is required.
Technical Skills: Demonstrated knowledge in geospatial analysis, mapping, and cartography using GIS and CAD tools.
Subject Matter Expertise: Knowledge in finance and economy related to urban development is required.
