As a General Accountant at Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, specifically based at the historic Fairmont Norfolk in Nairobi, you will play a critical role in supporting the financial health of the property. You will assist the Chief Accountant in the preparation of all reporting and analysis requirements across various frequencies, ensuring that all information presented is accurate, timely, and reflective of actual business transactions. This role requires flexibility and the ability to rotate across different sub-departments within Accounting & Finance to ensure comprehensive service delivery.
Responsibilities
Reporting and Analysis: Assist the Chief Accountant in preparing daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual, and ad-hoc reports and analysis, including the posting of vouchers.
Financial Integrity: Ensure all reports are accurate and meet designated deadlines.
Audit and Compliance: Prepare groundwork for statutory audits and tax/fee requirements. Provide support during internal and external audit reviews.
Tax Management: Administer tax filing and government reporting procedures to ensure compliance with laws and regulations.
General Ledger and Reconciliation: Maintain the General Ledger with journal entries and perform month-end reconciliations of Balance Sheet Accounts.
Cash Management: Conduct surprise spot-checks on General Cashier and Outlet Cashier floats on a periodic basis. Prepare daily and monthly bank reconciliations for online statements.
Inventory Control: Assist in surprise stock-count inspections and participate in quarterly/yearly inventory of operating equipment.
Asset Management: Maintain the Fixed Asset Register and allocate shared expenses among departments.
Budgeting: Assist in the compilation of departmental budgets and financial forecasts.
Operational Support: Supervise and demonstrate duties within the assigned place of work and rotate within sub-departments of the Accounting & Finance Department as needed.
Qualifications and Experience
Minimum of 1 year relevant experience in a luxury hotel or resort environment.
Completed a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Accountancy.
An active CPA license is considered an advantage.
Knowledgeable in Sun Systems, Opera, Materials Control, and Kenyan Taxation.
An effective team player with strong organizational skills.
Physical Aspects of Position
Constant standing and walking throughout the shift.
Occasional lifting and carrying of up to 30 lbs.
Occasional kneeling, pushing, pulling, and ascending/descending stairs or ramps.
