AGL (Africa Global Logistics), the reference multimodal logistics operator in Africa and part of the MSC family, seeks a dedicated Financial Controller. With 23,000 employees in 50 countries, AGL connects Africa globally, relying on its 250 subsidiaries to provide port, ocean, logistics, and railway solutions.
This role is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the company, ensuring accurate reporting, maintaining compliance with financial and tax regulations, and acting as the primary financial authority in Nairobi. The controller serves as a key interface with bankers and tax consultants, playing a crucial role in budgeting, financial analysis, and payment authorization.
Mission Description / Responsibilities
- Prepare financial analysis for submission to the steering committee.
- Carry out financial reconciliation and ensure Gross Margin (GM) aligns with the values agreed upon by the committee.
- Prepare monthly financial reports.
- Follow up on credit line utilization and closure.
- Review and approve vouchers – petty cash, check payments, suppliers, internal transfers.
- Authorize payments – sign checks and funds transfer instructions to the company's bankers.
- Act as the company's interface with bankers and the liaison on administrative matters.
- Confirm manually initiated funds transfers.
- Authorize purchases (signing Local Purchase Orders - LPOs).
- Review returns and authorize re-imbursements.
- Liaise with other heads of departments and senior management on day-to-day issues, e.g., authorization/allocation of expenses.
- Ensure that the general ledger accounts and disbursements files are regularly monitored and fully explained at the end of the month.
- Complete the consolidation package for purposes of reporting to Head office.
- Involvement in the annual budget preparation process.
- Give the necessary support to the external auditors to facilitate finalization of the year-end financial statements.
- Control the tax file for the company vis-à-vis records maintained by the company's tax consultants and the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), and to follow up on VAT and corporation tax issues with the company's tax consultants.
- Ensure conformity with tax regulations by remitting statutory deductions within the stipulated time limits, ensuring the necessary amounts are withheld where necessary and remitted to the tax authorities.
Profile and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Commerce.
- CPA (K) certification.
- Minimum 5 years' experience.
