The Field Technologist role is crucial for ensuring the smooth execution of research protocols within Kakamega County for the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI). This position involves direct oversight of field operations, rigorous documentation, sample management, and effective community engagement to support the study objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee that all study procedures, consent forms, and documentation are completed, verified, and organized per protocol.
- Provide daily oversight, guidance, and problem-solving to ensure smooth field operations throughout the study period.
- Maintain adequate field supplies, ensure proper handling, processing, and transport of samples, and oversee safe biowaste disposal.
- Build and sustain positive relationships with community members and address study-related concerns effectively.
- Ensure timely and accurate data uploads and routinely provide progress updates to the study coordinator or trial manager.
- Contribute to field staff training and perform other duties assigned by study leadership as needed.
Qualifications and Requirements
The successful candidate must meet the following criteria:
- Education: Diploma in Public Health, Community health, Social Sciences, or any other related field from a recognized institution.
- Training: Trained in data collection tools like Commcare, ODK, or Redcap.
- Knowledge: Knowledge of working with Ministry of Health (MoH) registers.
- Knowledge: Knowledge of Good Clinical Practices (GCP) and principles of Human Subject Research.
- Experience (Added Advantage): Experience in conducting cross-sectional surveys, including anthropometric measurements and blood sampling.
