Information about the Role
Village Enterprise is a 501 non-profit organization that equips rural Africans living in extreme poverty with the resources to create sustainable businesses. The Field Associate is responsible for the delivery of program outputs and the coordination of the field team (Business Mentors) in their area of jurisdiction. This role involves extensive fieldwork, mentoring, and stakeholder management to ensure the success of the organization's poverty alleviation goals.
Responsibilities
Business Mentor Activities:
Manage all Business Mentors (BMs) in your region, ensuring high-quality Core Program implementation.
Conduct regular field visits (3-4 days a week) to assess training and mentoring by the Business Mentors and overall performance of businesses; carry out at least 6 business spot-checks per week.
Spearhead the Village opening process in all sub-counties.
Guide Business Mentors on SBs and PRs grant applications for viable businesses and approve them prior to submission to the Program Manager.
Ensure BM work plans are developed, followed, and timely shared through Google Sheets.
Bi-weekly meetings and Induction Training:
Prepare bi-weekly meetings and agendas, ensuring they are shared via Google Sheets.
Train BMs on new data collection forms and reinforce the value of the data collected.
Work with M&E to confirm proper form collection and upload to the database.
Lead Induction Training and onboarding for new BMs, including scheduling field visits and preparing materials.
Coordinate with Finance & Administration to ensure training materials are available.
Program Reporting:
Collect, develop, and submit BM work plans in a timely fashion.
Monitor mentoring logs and activity reports.
Submit reports and minutes for all attended meetings.
Track program participant attendance.
Managing Partnerships:
Establish relationships with Local Government officials, community leaders, and stakeholders.
Represent the organization at district and sub-county levels in protocol, security, and sector meetings.
Provide management with feedback from partnership meetings within three days.
Support BMs to register Business Savings Groups with relevant government authorities.
Facilitate expansion strategies to new areas of operation.
Internal Activity Coordination:
Participate in Innovation Team meetings and provide field perspectives.
Support BMs in implementing the Adapted Nutrition-Friendly Graduation Model.
Act as a focal person for capturing learning and ideas from BMs and communities.
Assist in phone/tablet troubleshooting for data collection.
Logistics and Administration:
Oversee day-to-day field operations, including staff attendance and leave.
Enforce field safety guidelines and monitor equipment usage.
Assist in the computation of field stipends.
Safeguarding:
Sensitize program participants on safeguarding and ensure compliance with policies.
Report any safeguarding incidents for follow-up.
Requirements and Qualifications
A Diploma in community development, business management, education, or any other course related to rural development.
At least one (1) year of experience in a comparable and relevant position.
Experience in leading teams, teaching, training, and working in rural setups.
Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
IT knowledge is an added advantage.
High level of self-motivation and dedication.
Ability to interact easily with various community groups.
