This role is for a multi-skilled professional Fashion Designer to join a newly set up fashion retail brand focused on empowering women through stylish, functional, and culturally expressive clothing. The brand emphasizes modern business and casual wear infused with African-inspired fabrics and aesthetics. The designer must be creative and capable of translating ideas into garments that fit beautifully and reflect the brand's Afro-contemporary identity.
Key Responsibilities
- Conceptualize original designs for women's business, casual, and Afro-inspired wear.
- Translate fashion trends and cultural elements into wearable, brand-aligned pieces.
- Develop design sketches, digital flats, and visual presentations for internal reviews.
- Collaborate on seasonal themes, color stories, and textile directions.
- Draft and modify custom patterns for a range of women's silhouettes (two piece outfits, jumpsuits, maxi dresses, etc.).
- Build prototypes and sample garments from scratch, ensuring precision and fit.
- Perform detailed garment fittings and make adjustments based on feedback.
- Execute clean, production-ready finishes with high craftsmanship.
- Create detailed tech packs, including construction notes, measurements, and fabric specs.
- Liaise with suppliers and production partners to ensure alignment on design and quality.
- Oversee fabric and trim selection with a focus on both aesthetics and function.
- Assist in preparing garments for retail presentation or photoshoots.
Qualifications & Experience
- At least 3 years of experience as a fashion designer, preferably in a local fashion setting.
- Proficiency in garment construction, cutting, stitching, and finishing for women's wear.
- Strong design portfolio showcasing creativity and originality.
- Ability to design and construct maxi dresses, two-piece outfits, jumpsuits, and other contemporary styles.
- Ability to work with different types of fabrics and understand garment structure and sizing.
- Excellent measurement and alteration skills with a keen eye for detail.
- Ability to sketch or use basic design tools (manual or digital) to present clothing ideas.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Self-driven, organized, and capable of managing multiple orders and deadlines.
