The role of Education Economist sits within the Education Team of Genesis Analytics' Human Development practice. This is a technically strong and delivery-oriented position focused on applying rigorous economic analysis and advisory services to address real-world education policy and system challenges across foundational, basic, and higher education.
This is a consulting role. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of the education sector, high analytical acumen, and commercial awareness. We seek a self-starter capable of working independently from day one in a highly dynamic consulting environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Project Delivery and Technical Leadership
- Contribute to and progressively lead the design and delivery of education projects, ensuring methodological rigour and policy relevance.
- Translate quantitative and qualitative findings into clear, policy-relevant recommendations and client deliverables.
- Progressively supervise and mentor junior analysts and associates, helping to foster internal capacity for high-quality analytics.
2. Consulting and Client Engagement
- Engage directly with key stakeholders including ministries of education, development partners, and private sector actors to co-create sustainable solutions to education system challenges.
- Communicate insights and recommendations effectively through polished presentations, comprehensive reports, and interactive workshops.
- Manage or co-manage specific project workstreams, ensuring timely, high-quality delivery and consistent client satisfaction.
3. Thought Leadership and Business Development
- Support and lead business development initiatives, including proposal design, methodological framing, and initial client engagement efforts.
- Contribute significantly to the team’s intellectual leadership on critical topics such as education financing, system efficiency, and structural reform.
- Collaborate effectively across Genesis’ wider Human Development practice to integrate expertise and deliver comprehensive solutions.
Requirements
We are looking for candidates who meet the following qualifications and experience:
- Education: Master’s degree (or PhD) in Economics, Development Studies, or a closely related field.
- Experience: At least 5 years of professional experience working specifically within the education sector.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to translate complex technical findings into clear and actionable policy advice for diverse audiences.
- Mindset: A proven entrepreneurial and self-starter mindset, capable of independent operation.
- Consulting Exposure (Desirable): Prior consulting-style experience is a plus, or extensive experience in a high-pressure setting requiring the ability to manage tasks and deliver high-quality outputs under tight timelines.
- Analytical Skills: Strong quantitative and advanced analytical skills are mandatory.
- International Development Experience (Desirable): Prior experience in prestigious international development programs, such as the Overseas Development Institute (ODI) Fellowship, the World Bank (WB) Young Professionals Program, the African Development Bank (AfDB) Young Professionals Program, or similar highly selective programs, is desirable.
