About the Role\nHumanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT) is a US-based NGO and global community of thousands of volunteers working together to use maps and open data for humanitarian response and the Sustainable Development Goals. HOT is seeking a Drone Mapping Consultant to lead imagery acquisition and capacity development efforts in Nairobi. The consultant will be responsible for mapping approximately 33 villages (~2.7 km² total) and providing technical training to SDI Kenya staff to enhance their mapping capabilities.\n\n### Deliverables\n\n\n* Brief work plan and schedule.\n* Flight plan(s) and risk assessment.\n* Evidence of compliance (KCAA licensing as required, drone registration, and insurance).\n\n\n* DroneTM project(s) created/configured for the agreed areas.\n* Tasks/flight planning prepared in DroneTM (or compatible workflow agreed with HOT‑ESA).\n* All collected imagery organized and uploaded/shared through the agreed DroneTM workflow.\n\n\n* Complete set of raw images covering the agreed areas.\n* Flight logs (and any other relevant mission metadata).\n\n\n* Basic QA/QC notes (coverage, overlap, blur, gaps, any re-flight needs).\n* Mapping-ready outputs in agreed format(s) (e.g., orthomosaic and metadata), if required and feasible within time.\n\n\n* Supervised field-based demonstration(s) and practical coaching for SDI Kenya staff on safe drone operations, data capture, imagery quality checks, and DroneTM basics.\n* Coaching may include staff in the process of obtaining pilot certification; all operations must remain KCAA compliant.\n\n\n* A 2–4 page report summarizing what was flown, delivered, challenges, and recommendations.\n\n### Key Tasks\n\n\n* Confirm areas of interest (approx. 33 villages / ~2.7 km² total) and technical specifications (target ground sample distance, overlap, altitude limits, output formats).\n* Prepare a concise flight plan and risk assessment covering KCAA compliance, community engagement, and safety procedures.\n* Configure Drone Tasking Manager (DroneTM) for project delivery, including user access and naming conventions.\n* Prepare a light capacity development plan aligned to a "learning-by-doing" approach.\n\n### Requirements and Qualifications\n\n* BA/BSc/HND qualification.\n* Demonstrated experience in drone mapping / UAV imagery capture and processing.\n* Valid Remote Pilot License (RPL) or equivalent recognized by KCAA.\n* Access to a KCAA-compliant, registered, and insured drone suitable for mapping.\n* Ability to work collaboratively with community and multi-stakeholder teams.\n* Fluency in English is required; Swahili is strongly preferred.\n\n### How to Apply\nInterested and qualified candidates should apply online via the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT) application page on BambooHR.
