The role of the Deputy Director Placement & Industry Linkage is a senior leadership position crucial for developing and executing strategies to ensure BMA graduates are successfully placed in relevant industries, including securing sea time, internships, and employment. This involves establishing strong, strategic linkages with both public and private stakeholders globally, and ensuring the academy produces job-market-ready graduates.
Duties and Responsibilities
Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:
- Negotiating for sea time opportunities for the students.
- Establishing linkages with stakeholders (both public and private) for purposes of developing and executing a framework for advancement and placement of graduates.
- Negotiating for employment opportunities for BMA graduates with major international shipping companies.
- Managing and coordinating students and trainers exchange programs.
- Producing holistic graduates who are prepared for the job market and entrepreneurial activities.
- Establishing and maintaining a database for students and graduates.
- Establishing a framework in liaison with the Chief Executive Officer on opportunities for Scholarship and Sponsorship.
- Initiating the development of MOUs for purposes of placement and internship of students.
- Working in liaison with the administration for recognition of certificates internationally.
- Liaising with National Employment Authority and other relevant government agencies for placement for students nationally and internationally.
- Marketing BMA graduates to potential employers nationally, regionally, and internationally.
- Ensuring staff development in the Division.
- Appraising staff and coordinating Performance Management in the Division.
Person Specifications and Qualifications
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have the following qualifications and experience:
- Cumulative service period of fifteen (15) years relevant work experience, three (3) of which must have been at the grade of Assistant Director, Placement and Industry Linkages or in any comparable position.
- Bachelors’ degree in any of the following fields: Marine Engineering, Nautical Science, Maritime logistics, Education, Development studies, Marketing, Communication, International Relations or Qualifications in accordance with STCW 78 of the conventions amended, such as Certificates of Competence (CoC), Chief Engineer or Master Mariner (II/2 or III/2).
- Master’s Degree in any of the following fields: Maritime Logistics, Education, Development studies, Marketing, Communication, International Relations or equivalent qualifications.
- Qualifications in accordance with STCW 78 of the conventions amended i.e. Certificate of Competence (CoC), Chief Engineer or Master Mariner (II/2 OR III/2).
- Registration by relevant professional body.
- Leadership course lasting not less than 4 weeks from a recognized institution.
- Proficiency in computer applications skills.
