The County Youth Officer for Nairobi acts as the focal person for Youth programs across the county. This role is responsible for providing coordination and technical support to volunteers and collaborating closely with the Regional and National Youth Office to ensure the effective monitoring, coordination, evaluation, and documentation of program progress.
Purpose
The primary purpose is to coordinate and technically support youth programs and volunteers in Nairobi County, ensuring effective monitoring, coordination, evaluation, and documentation.
Key Responsibilities
Program Development/Implementation
- Provide technical assistance and day-to-day coordination of the Youth Programs.
- Maintain routine internal communication with KRCS’ Youth Office for effective program delivery and coordination.
- Prepare periodic programme update reports documenting progress against set targets.
- Maintain budget and track expenditures at the implementation level.
- Ensure the aligning of Youth activities to the overall KRCS Youth Program objectives, with support from the Youth Office.
- Monitor planned activities to ensure implementation constraints receive timely corrective actions.
- Support and strengthen the youth organizational capacity through the County Youth Board.
- Work with the County Board to ensure strict adherence to statutory requirements of the County Youth Board.
- Identify and map out potential and strategic partners to support youth activities.
- Develop sustainable resource mobilization strategies in line with the KRCS resource mobilization strategies.
- Work with the County Coordinator to devise communication and engagement strategy to advocate for youth empowerment agenda across the county.
- Oversee the implementation of youth programs across all Red Cross school clubs, Red Cross University/College Chapters, and other youth groups in the county.
- Ensure up-to-date records/database of all the youth leaders, youth members, and youth volunteers across all the counties in the county.
- Strengthen the partnership between KRCS and all the patrons within Nairobi County, ensuring seamless implementation of in-school programs.
- Identify risks to youth programming in the county and devise mitigation strategies.
- Coordinate the implementation of joint youth development initiatives at the county level.
- Perform any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.
Knowledge Management
- Creation and sharing of knowledge by synthesizing and documenting lessons learned, success stories, and best practices, strategies, and approaches.
- Track best practices and maintain a breadth of knowledge about current trends, emerging issues, opportunities, and thematic areas in youth engagement efforts that are key to the county.
- Research to identify appropriate stakeholders and cost-effective program components and put its implementation to practice.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences or in a related field from a recognized institution, coupled with in-depth knowledge of the current youth development priorities in Kenya.
- Demonstrated experience in youth development work.
- Proven ability to work across the project cycle management.
- Sound knowledge and skills in project planning and management.
- Demonstrated ability to work closely and effectively with administrative and community structures.
- Experience in implementation of projects in a multi-stakeholders environment.
Key Competencies
- Volunteerism experience within Kenya Red Cross Society is desirable.
- Excellent written and spoken English and Kiswahili proficiency.
- Adoption of a participatory and team approach to work and behavior.
- Ability to provide timely, well-written, and analytical reports to the project team as required.
- Self-motivated with a passion for the work and keen to learn as well as share knowledge and new ideas.
- Good understanding of community work and development programming and effective project management.
- Ability to coordinate and network with partners to build synergies that enhance the sustainability of the project outcomes.
