Purpose of the Role
The Country Manager Kenya will be responsible for delivering business results and driving growth in the country by sustaining sales growth of the current portfolio focusing on oncology, mental health, and immunology, ensuring the funding of our innovation by the reimbursement bodies, co-leading the mental health project execution, launching our innovative new portfolio, and managing our collaboration with our distributors in Kenya to drive our business. This needs to be done with a focus on creating an excellent local company image, complying with all relevant local legislation, partnering internally/externally where appropriate, and increasing our trust and reputation.
Key Responsibilities
Delivering Local Business Results & Distributor Management
Set country sales objectives (forecasts, growth, share etc.) in line with portfolio potential, lifecycle of products, and regional objectives.
Plan required budgets and optimize resources.
Review and approve all team activities (sales, medical, regulatory, marketing, market access, etc.).
Sustain sales growth of our current portfolio with a focus on oncology, mental health, and immunology through relevant resourcing, monitoring of stock levels in the value chain, liaison with distributors, and ensuring proper reporting and alignment.
Launch our innovative new portfolio by putting plans in place for priority products, including regulatory submissions, market access, tender negotiation/submission, and medical education as appropriate.
Analyze insights gathered locally to identify opportunities and risks within current plans to enable early insights and development of corrective measures.
Drive our mental health efforts and co-lead mental health project execution.
Develop the local company, coach the team, set up the local working environment, and catalyze various functions to create a collaborative mindset.
Recruit, develop, and retain top talent, preparing for succession.
Ensure full alignment among functions/people and motivate the team to achieve country objectives.
Lead others with role model behavior.
Strengthen Johnson & Johnson's image and reputation locally by developing relationships with relevant market stakeholders (e.g., Key Opinion Leaders, government bodies, pharma societies, etc.).
Compliance & Pharmaceutical Responsibilities
Comply with local laws, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), Healthcare Business Integrity (HCBI) guidelines, and Policy on Business Conduct (PBC).
Ensure inspection readiness with respect to personal training compliance, and availability of a recent CV and individualized Job Description.
Ensure Healthcare Compliance (HCC) and legal requirements (Fair Market Value, Transfer of Value rules, Promotional Materials rules) are fully understood, appropriately managed, and complied with when planning and executing projects.
Ensure local adaptation of relevant EMEA generated promotional materials prior to launch.
Ensure timely reporting of adverse events (AE) and product quality complaints (PQC) as per pharmacovigilance guidelines and SOPs.
Key Interactions
Internal: All functions locally and regionally (medical, regulatory, sales, supply chain, finance, HR, TALs, GA, etc.) and regional leadership (Regulatory, Medical, HC, Quality, IT, etc.).
External: Key Opinion Leaders, Medical Associations, Distributors, and Governmental agencies.
Essential Knowledge, Experience, & Skills
Minimum of a bachelor's degree is required; an advanced degree in business (MBA) or life sciences is preferred.
7–10 years of progressive commercial experience, ideally in the Pharmaceutical Industry.
Job experience and/or education outside of Kenya is preferred.
Fluency in English and one or more local languages (e.g., Swahili).
Significant experience working within highly matrixed environments and cross-functional teams.
Previous line management and leadership responsibility.
Experience with forecasting and budgeting.
Entrepreneurial mindset, self-starter, and excellent problem-solver.
Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
Strong stakeholder management and customer relationships.
High degree of business ethics and integrity.
