Cook I (Job Grade KEWI 10)

This role is for a Cook I at the Kenya Water Institute (KEWI), designated under Job Grade KEWI 10. The position reports directly to the Senior Cook, KEWI 9. The Cook I is responsible for executing and supervising various culinary and food service operations, ensuring adherence to hygiene standards, proper storage, and efficient service.

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:

• Ensuring proper storage of food stuffs.
• Setting up of food service areas and placement of food in serving lines.
• Supervising and replenishing food stuffs during service.
• Recording and reporting low stock levels.
• Detecting and reporting spoilt or unattractive food.
• Detecting and reporting defective equipment.

Person Specifications

For appointment to this grade, an officer must possess the following qualifications and attributes:

Experience and Qualifications:

• Served for a cumulative period of six (6) years relevant work experience, including three (3) years at the grade of Cook II or in a comparable position.
• Certificate in any of the following Courses: Food Production, Food and Beverage Production, Catering and Hotel Management, or an equivalent qualification lasting not less than six (6) months from a recognised institution.
• Certificate of medical examination in line with the Food, Drugs and Chemical Substance Act.
• Proficiency in computer applications.
• Demonstrated merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
