CMA CGM is a leading worldwide shipping group operating globally across ocean, logistics, and port services.
Reporting to the Regional Operations Director Africa with functional reporting to Group Operations Direction ('DirOps'), the COO Africa Sub Regional Office is responsible for overseeing port operations across countries within the Sub-Region Office's influence. Based in Nairobi, Kenya, this role involves regular on-site missions to audit operations teams in Agencies and Terminals where Group vessels operate, seeking process improvement, business development, OPEX control, and growth opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform regular on-site missions auditing Terminals and Agencies operations and proposing action plans for Lines and Agencies to improve local Operations efficiency.
- Monitor and report process gaps, implementing new processes where necessary.
- Monitor and report evolution of main Operations KPIs following DirOps guidelines.
- Monitor Local OPEX evolution and cost reduction plans in coordination with Regional Cost Control.
- Control SLA terms application in coordination with HO Procurement and Regional Cost Control.
- Collaborate with Africa Lines teams in delivering contingency plans when necessary.
- Collaborate with local agents and Africa lines teams to identify new business opportunities.
- Collaborate with stakeholders (terminal operators, local authorities, local agents) to ensure Group interests are well served and protected.
- Collaborate with HO Equipment Control and Regional Logistics team to fluidify empty evacuations.
- Collaborate with HO Intermodal and local CCIS entities to optimize Group assets footprint.
- Support Group tools deployment and training within Agency Operations teams in coordination with Ops Unification team.
- Develop the Operations Community within your scope of Agencies under DirOps guidance.
- Collaborate with Regional HR to identify and promote High Potential talent within the Operations community.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience in Line Operations or Agency Port Operations.
- Background as Senior Ship Manager, Line Operations Manager, or Port Operations Manager.
- Degree qualification (BA / BSc / HND).
- Strong communication skills with the ability to synthesize complex operational topics.
- Proven ability to represent Group interests before Port Authorities and local decision-makers.
- Leadership ability to manage working groups and share expertise with local teams.
- Previous experience in Agency or Terminal is a strong plus.
- Previous experience in Procurement is a plus.
- Fluent in both French and English (mandatory).
- Merchant Marine Officer background is a plus.
