United Nations Environment Programme
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system, and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.
UNEP’s Regional Office for Africa plays a vital role in the implementation of UNEP global programmes in the African region by initiating, coordinating, and catalysing regional and sub-regional cooperation and action in response to environmental challenges and emerging issues.
The African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN) was established in 1985 to provide a platform for African Ministers of Environment to deliberate on issues of importance to the continent and to provide policy guidance for environmental action. UNEP serves as the Secretariat to AMCEN.
Under the direct supervision of the Regional Director for ROA, the Communication and Outreach Consultant will support the AMCEN Secretariat to carry out its mandate efficiently and effectively. The purpose of this consultancy is to develop and implement communication and outreach activities that increase awareness of AMCEN's priorities, decisions, programmes, and achievements among Member States, development partners, media, civil society, youth, academia, and the broader public.
