Job Description
The Category Manager is responsible for the full commercial performance of assigned product categories, including sales growth, margin optimization, assortment planning, supplier negotiations, and inventory management. This role directly impacts store profitability and the customer value proposition.
Key Responsibilities
Category Strategy: Develop and execute the category strategy to achieve sales growth, margin, and market share targets.
Supplier Negotiations: Lead commercial negotiations with suppliers, including pricing, rebates, promotional funding, and contract terms.
Financial Performance: Manage category P&L performance, ensuring an optimal balance between revenue growth and profitability.
Assortment Optimization: Define and optimize product assortment (SKU mix) based on customer insights, sales data, and competitive analysis.
Pricing & Promotion: Drive pricing architecture and promotional planning to maximize foot traffic, basket size, and gross margin.
Supply Chain Collaboration: Collaborate with the Supply Chain department to ensure strong inventory management, minimize stock-outs, and improve stock turnover.
Market Analysis: Monitor competitor activity and market trends to identify opportunities for innovation and differentiation.
Requirements and Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree (BA/BSc/HND) in Business, Economics, or a related field.
Experience: 3-5 years of experience in retail buying, category management, or similar commercial roles.
Industry Knowledge: Experience in modern trade retail is preferred; exposure to an FMCG environment is a plus.
Negotiation Skills: Strong experience in supplier negotiations and contract management.
Analytical Skills: Strong analytical capability to interpret sales data and financial metrics.
Stakeholder Management: Ability to manage relationships with internal stakeholders and external vendors.
