The Clinical Officer at Aga Khan Medical Centre, Lodwar plays a dual role, encompassing both high-quality patient care provision and the daily management and operation of the medical centre.
Key Responsibilities
The responsibilities include clinical duties as well as operational management functions:
Clinical Duties:
- Taking history, examining, diagnosing, and ordering necessary laboratory and imaging investigations.
- Interpreting laboratory and imaging results to inform diagnosis and treatment.
- Treating patients' common ailments at an Outpatient health facility.
- Carrying out surgical procedures.
- Assessing, preparing, and presenting medico-legal reports and referring patients and clients to appropriate health facilities.
- Guiding and counselling patients, clients, and staff on health issues.
- Sensitizing patients and clients on preventive and promotive health.
- Implementing Community Healthcare activities in liaison with other health workers.
- Complying with the hospital Confidentiality and privacy policies.
Operational/Management Duties:
- Managing the daily operations of the medical centre, ensuring efficient workflow and optimal patient experience.
- Supervising, mentoring, and evaluating clinical and administrative staff within the centre.
- Implementing operational policies and procedures to enhance service delivery.
- Preparing and presenting regular reports on the centre’s performance to the Head of Outreach.
- Addressing and resolving patient complaints and concerns promptly and professionally.
- Leading and participating in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and safety.
- Organizing health management teams and convening health management committee meetings.
Requirements
- Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery from a recognized institution.
- At least three (3) years’ relevant work experience.
- Current practicing Certificate.
- Membership registration to the relevant professional body.
- Proficiency in computer applications.
- Evidence of continuous professional development.
Added Advantage:
- Competency in emergency procedures e.g., BLS (Basic Life Support), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), etc.
