As a Clinical Nurse in the Accident and Emergency department, you will be responsible for providing high-quality professional nursing care to patients in a high-pressure environment. The role involves rapid assessment, prioritization of care through triage, and the execution of life-saving interventions. You will work within a multidisciplinary team to ensure patient safety, effective monitoring, and comprehensive documentation of care.
Responsibilities
Triage each patient using the CETAS criteria and determine priority of care based on physical, psychological, and social needs.
Identify patients with infectious diseases, initiate appropriate isolation precautions, and communicate as necessary.
Perform focused assessments of chief complaints for each patient in a timely manner according to established triage guidelines.
Provide professional nursing care for assigned patients in the emergency room.
Complete head-to-toe assessments and re-assessments of patients to identify their care needs.
Carry out hemodynamic monitoring including vital signs, neurological and fluid status, labs, and radiological evaluations.
Document all assessment data, investigation results, care given, and interactions with the multidisciplinary team or family in an accurate and timely manner.
Administer medication safely, monitor patient responses, and promptly report adverse reactions.
Prepare for and assist physicians in performing various procedures such as the insertion of invasive lines.
Maintain adequate airway management including oxygen therapy, nebulization, and suctioning.
Prepare patients for various investigations including lab tests and radiological imaging.
Initiate care for psychiatry patients according to hospital policy.
Collect specimens in emergency situations and ensure correct labeling.
Perform pain assessment and reassessment; initiate analgesia as per protocol.
Promptly report both clinical and non-clinical unusual findings/incidents to the nurse manager, team leader, or physician.
Identify patient and family education needs and implement appropriate teaching.
Recognize patients in pre-arrest or arrest states and initiate Basic Life Support (BLS).
Provide a safe environment for patients through adherence to infection control practices and other safety policies.
Requirements
KRCHN / BScN from a recognized school of Nursing or University.
Current Licensure with the Nursing Council of Kenya.
Certificate in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in an acute care hospital.
Demonstrated evidence-based knowledge of current practices in Emergency nursing.
Demonstrated leadership and management skills.
