The Business Development Manager role, based in Nairobi and reporting to the Commercial manager-Kenya, is fundamentally aimed at driving the growth of AGL's market share and achieving defined Gross Margin objectives.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Customer Relationship Management: Consolidate and maintain up-to-date knowledge on customers (including key decision makers, influencers, volume potential, incumbents, industry challenges/opportunities, and strategic expectations) and monitor AGL performance.
- Key Account Acquisition: Act as AGL’s main entry point to secure approved/preferred vendor status from key accounts.
- Sales Strategy & Implementation: Develop and implement the sales action plan, managing and monitoring the dedicated sales team's performance.
- Performance Monitoring: Review AGL performance and quality indicators which have been contracted with customers.
- Growth Planning: Build detailed action plans, and plan and monitor growth with the dedicated network sales team, ensuring alignment with customers flows.
- CRM Utilization: Optimize sales awareness and development throughout the network utilizing CRM tools.
- Direct Customer Engagement: Lead direct actions with identified customer interlocutors.
- Operational Oversight: Define operational and pricing procedures and exercise authority over agencies to ensure these procedures are effectively applied.
- Tender Management: Lead global tenders, design and present global tenders to customers with support from AGL functions and expertise, and participate in sign-off with respective operations parties.
- Conflict Resolution: Engage the corporate steering committee to arbitrate financial, sales, or operational disputes linked to international contract management.
- New Business Development: Focus on developing new business opportunities that currently fall outside the existing AGL portfolio.
Required Profile and Qualifications
- Education: Must possess a Business Degree.
- Professional Qualification: Diploma in Sales & Marketing or equivalent.
- Certification: MSK/CIM membership is mandatory.
- Experience: Five years of experience working within the logistics or FMCG industry.
- Industry Knowledge: Comprehensive knowledge of the freight industry is required.
