Board of Directors

This position is for a Board of Directors member at Mbooni Water and Sanitation Company Limited (MBONWASCO), under the oversight of the Makueni County Public Service Board. The Director will play a crucial role in the governance and strategic direction of the Water Service Provider (WSP).

Duties and Responsibilities

The Board Directors shall:

• Oversee the running and management of the Water Service Provider in accordance with provisions of the Act and other relevant laws.
• Formulate policies and make rules for the day-to-day management of the Water Service Provider.
• Ensure timely preparation and submission of reports to relevant stakeholders.
• Oversee the Water Service Provider programs and projects.
• Ensure prudent financial management practices in the company.
• Ensure development and implementation of the company strategic plan and other relevant plans.
• Facilitate Human Resource Management and Development.
• Coordinate Stakeholder engagement and resource mobilization.
• Advise the County Government on matters relating to water service provision in their area of operation.
• Undertake any other activity necessary for fulfilment of any of its functions as stipulated in the Water Act, 2016, WASREB Regulations, 2024, the Water Services Regulations, 2025, and the Makueni County Water Services Regulations, 2021.

Qualifications and Requirements

Candidates must meet the following mandatory qualifications:

• Be a Kenyan citizen.
• Be a holder of a minimum of a Bachelor's degree from a university recognized in Kenya or its equivalent in any of the following fields: Accounting/Finance; Engineering; Human Resource; Law or Business systems/Management systems or any other professional field with relevant experience.
• Must be a member in good standing with the relevant professional body.
• Must have a minimum of seven (7) years working experience in the core profession of the person or have run a registered own enterprise for a minimum of seven (7) years.
• Must meet the Leadership and Integrity criteria under Chapter 6 of the Constitution of Kenya (2010) and meet the fit and proper test criteria from WASREB.
• Must be a resident of the area covered by Mbooni Water and Sanitation Company Limited (MBONWASCO).
• Must not be a holder of any political office.
• Must not be a State Officer.

Added Advantage:

• Experience and training in Corporate Governance or the water related sector will be an added advantage.

Required Documentation (Upon Shortlisting):

Shortlisted candidates will be required to produce their original National Identity cards, Certificates and Testimonials at the interview. Furthermore, shortlisted candidates MUST provide valid clearance/compliance certificates from the following Institutions:

• Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
• Higher Education Loans Board (HELB).
• Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).
• Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
• Credit Reference Bureau (CRB).
