The BioMed Lead (Healthcare) role involves leading and supervising the biomedical engineering team within a healthcare facility in Bomet. This position is critical for ensuring the continuous improvement, optimal performance, and strict regulatory compliance of all medical equipment and associated systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise the biomedical engineering team, ensuring performance, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance plans and equipment lifecycle management strategies.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards for biomedical equipment.
- Oversee installation, calibration, repair, and maintenance of all medical equipment and medical gas systems.
- Monitor uptime and performance of critical equipment and resolve faults promptly.
- Maintain accurate equipment inventory, service records, and performance documentation.
- Collaborate with clinical departments to assess technical needs and provide equipment support.
- Manage vendor relationships, service contracts, warranties, and procurement of biomedical equipment and spare parts.
- Train biomedical staff and clinical users on the safe and effective use of equipment.
- Conduct equipment safety audits, risk assessments, and support quality assurance initiatives.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree (BA/BSc/HND) in Biomedical Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in biomedical engineering, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role.
- Membership in AMEK (desired); registration with EBK or IEK is an advantage.
- Experience in a cardiac or specialized healthcare facility is an added advantage.
- Proficiency in MS Project, Excel, PowerPoint, and AutoCAD.
- Advanced troubleshooting and maintenance skills across diverse medical equipment.
- Strong understanding of medical gas systems and HVAC–equipment integration.
- Ability to interpret technical manuals, engineering drawings, and equipment specifications.
