This role is for an Audit Team Leader responsible for overseeing and executing audit engagements while ensuring strict compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), International Standards on Auditing (ISAs), and Audit Quality Control standards (ISQM 1 & 2). The leader must ensure audits are completed to the firm's standards, managed within budget, and contribute actively to practice development and team mentorship.
Key Responsibilities
Accountancy
- Understand all IFRS and IFRS for SMEs and continue to develop knowledge and skill in the interpretation of management information.
- Keep up to date on accounts disclosure requirements.
- Develop specialist knowledge according to own portfolio.
- Understand special accounting requirements of those clients for which the ATL is responsible (e.g., insurance companies).
Audit Administration
- Ensure that all audits are planned, controlled, reviewed, and completed to the firm’s standards, to the satisfaction of the client and within time and budget. The review of the work of the field staff is the ATL’s single most important task.
- Keep the partner and field staff informed of progress and problems.
- Encourage partner contact with the client and monitor costs.
- Ensure prompt billing and debt collection.
- Follow up/review points raised in the management letter of previous years and the current year’s draft management letter, and be proficient at report writing.
- Understand the principles of servant leadership to achieve the task, build the team, develop and empower others.
- Be familiar with the concepts of leadership and develop skills in training, briefing, delegating, target setting, problem solving, assessing staff performance, and counselling.
- On certain pre-selected assignments, operate at manager level and directly represent the assignment partner.
- Liaise with partners for specialist professional advice.
- Review/draft audit reports.
- Provide audit team with frequent, timely, and meaningful feedback (written or verbal), thereby modelling behavior to others.
- Manage staff performance appraisals.
- Ensure CCH Pro Audit risk planning, completion, and review areas are well covered.
Quality Control
- Understand the concept of ISQM 1 & 2 - Audit Quality Control, ISAs, and be responsible for ensuring compliance in all audit assignments.
Practice Development
- Adopt a commercial approach to auditing.
- Ensure quality service improvement and delivery, thus promoting the firm’s profile.
- Identify issues that clients may not recognize, and recommend (at a fee) innovative solutions that are appropriate to clients’ business/regulatory environment.
- Identify potential new clients, market our services, and be responsible for the acquisition of new business.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance/Accounting from a recognized university.
- CPA / ACCA Advanced level certification.
- Good communication skills.
