The role of the Assistant Director, Security Services at Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral & Research Hospital (KUTRRH) is to provide strategic leadership, coordination, and management of the security function within the Hospital. This involves developing, implementing, and monitoring security policies, systems, and procedures to ensure the safety and protection of staff, patients/clients, visitors, assets, and facilities.
Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral & Research Hospital (KUTRRH) is a leading National Referral Hospital with a 650-bed capacity and equipped with state-of-art medical amenities. The hospital offers Oncology, Trauma & Orthopedics, Renal, among other services. The Hospital is located along Northern Bypass Rd. near Kahawa West, Nairobi.
Reporting to the Deputy Director, Administration, the position holder will be responsible for the following duties and responsibilities:
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Developing security policies, regulations, rules, norms, protocols, and procedures.
- Managing security risks and implementing proactive mitigation strategies in line with the Hospital’s Risk Management Framework.
- Providing leadership in planning, coordinating, and monitoring security operations.
- Ensuring the environment is safe for staff, clients/patients, and visitors.
- Coordinating response to security emergencies and alarms.
- Reviewing reports on security incidents and breaches.
- Coordinating investigations and resolving security breaches and issues.
- Monitoring security policies, programs, or procedures to ensure compliance with the requirements.
- Analyzing and evaluating security operations to identify risks or opportunities for improvement.
- Conducting physical examinations of premises to ensure compliance with security policies and regulations.
- Coordinating security activities to safeguard assets, properties, employees, patients/clients, and guests.
- Communicating security status, updates, and actual or potential problems to management.
- Reviewing security status from time to time.
- Identifying and acting on security priorities.
- Developing and implementing new security measures.
- Conducting regular security surveys and instituting corrective action mechanisms.
- Disposing of and accounting for lost and found properties.
- Conducting refresher security operations, drills, and parades for security personnel.
- Providing comprehensive and confidential reports on security issues.
- Budgeting for security needs.
- Training, coaching, guiding, counseling, and mentoring staff in the security docket.
- Any other duty as may be assigned.
Qualifications and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor degree in Criminology & Security Studies or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
- Master degree in Criminology & Security Studies or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
- At least twelve (12) years relevant work experience, three (3) of which must have been at supervisory level.
- Six (6) weeks approved security course from the Kenya Police Service or the Kenya Defense Forces.
- Leadership Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution.
- Proficiency in computer applications.
- Compliance with Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya.
