Artisan I, Grade 4 - Department of Estates

The Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) is inviting applications for the position of Artisan I, Grade 4 within the Department of Estates (Reference: JKU/ADM/EST-I-10/25). This role is crucial for maintaining the operational efficiency and structural integrity of the University's property and facilities. The Artisan I is expected to perform highly skilled technical maintenance, complex repairs, and installations, ensuring all infrastructure systems function optimally and safely.

Key Responsibilities

While specific duties may vary by trade specialization, responsibilities for this senior artisan role generally include:

• Executing complex maintenance tasks and repairs related to specific trades (e.g., electrical, plumbing, masonry, carpentry).
• Diagnosing technical faults and conducting effective troubleshooting of facility systems.
• Supervising junior artisans and assistants, ensuring quality control in repair and installation work.
• Maintaining detailed records of materials used, work performed, and equipment inventory.
• Ensuring strict compliance with safety regulations and standards during all maintenance operations.
• Assisting in the planning and execution of minor renovation and construction projects within the university estate.

Qualifications and Experience

All applicants must possess the following minimum qualifications:

• Possession of a GTT I Certificate (Government Trade Test I).
• Academic qualification of KCSE/EACE/KCE certificate.
• A minimum of five (5) years’ relevant working experience acquired in Grade 3 or an equivalent position.
