The Accountant (Education) role is based in Nakuru and is crucial for managing the full spectrum of daily accounting operations, financial reporting, and compliance, preferably within an NGO, education, or faith-based setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage daily accounting operations, including accounts payable/receivable, bank reconciliations, and general ledger entries.
- Prepare timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and provide financial insights to management.
- Maintain accurate financial records, supporting documents, and a strong internal control environment.
- Support annual budgeting, monitor program and project expenditures, and prepare financial reports.
- Ensure compliance with donor requirements, fund restrictions, and accurate logging and allocation of donations.
- Process payroll, verify accuracy, and ensure timely remittance of statutory deductions (PAYE, NSSF, NHIF).
- Coordinate internal and external audits by preparing required documentation and reconciliation schedules.
- Maintain an updated fixed asset register and oversee consistent bank and cashbook reconciliations.
Key Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA (K) qualification or equivalent.
- 3–5 years’ experience in accounting or finance, preferably in an NGO, education, or faith-based setting.
- Experience in fund accounting, donor reporting, and statutory compliance.
- Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks, SAP, or similar) and advanced Excel.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
